Sri Lankan government allocates over US$ 2 billion for Defence Ministry in Appropriation Bill for 2012

The Sri Lankan government has allocated the highest amount, nearly 230 billion rupees, of expenditure to the newly organized Ministry of Defence and Urban Development in the 2012 Appropriation Bill that was presented to the parliament today by the Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne for its first reading.

Sri Lankan Muslims rendered a yeoman service, Sri Lanka Prime Minister says

Sri Lanka Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne appreciated the service rendered by local Muslims for the advancement of the economy of the country.
Addressing a ceremony held at Colombo today to mark the 60th anniversary of All Ceylon Young Men Muslim Association, the Premier said that the Muslim community rendered an invaluable service to the economic development of the country. He added that the Muslims' investments in the business sector helped to increase the foreign income earnings of the country.
