Sri Lanka's Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne has said that the government is ready to make an effective change in the spiritual ideals of all communities while safeguarding the Buddha Sasana.
The Government Information Department has quoted Jayaratne who had made the statement while participating in a ceremony in Kandy.
He has said that urgent plans are being made to overcome the destruction of culture and ideals.
According to Jayaratne, arrangements are underway to celebrate the 2600th Buddha Jayanthiya on a grand scale in Sri Lanka and other countries.
He has said that it is desired to educate the children as well as adults on how to lead a spiritual life based on the Buddha Dhamma.
A series of religious programmes have been organized at the Sri Wimaladharma Pirivena Vihare at Dangolla in Kandy under the Prime Minister's patronage.
