Sri Lankan Muslims rendered a yeoman service, Sri Lanka Prime Minister says

Sri Lanka Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne appreciated the service rendered by local Muslims for the advancement of the economy of the country.
Addressing a ceremony held at Colombo today to mark the 60th anniversary of All Ceylon Young Men Muslim Association, the Premier said that the Muslim community rendered an invaluable service to the economic development of the country. He added that the Muslims' investments in the business sector helped to increase the foreign income earnings of the country.



The Prime Minister recalled that in the Gampola electorate of Kandy district which he represented for a long time, 21 percent are Muslims while 23 percent are Tamils.

The Premier highlighted the need of implementing a programme to uplift the living conditions of the poor Muslim families.

Governor of Western province Alevi Moulana also addressed the gathering at the function.
