Sri Lankan Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne was the chief guest at the Sri Lanka's Pavilion Day held today at the Expo 2010 Shanghai Commerce and Cultural Forum currently being held in Shanghai, China.
The Expo 2010 Shanghai, conducted for 180 days, features a pavilion each day and today is Sri Lanka's day.
The event held under the theme Tradition to Modernity displays five distinctive cities of Sri Lanka, all of which enjoy a long history, in an innovative and artistic way to review their histories.
According to the organizers valuable urban heritages were also presented to enlighten the world how Sri Lanka has achieved development together with preservation of its cultural heritages.
The pavilion with a ceiling painted with traditional batik craft and walls decorated with colorful national flags is located within Zone A of the Expo site.
Sri Lanka's state-owned TV, ITN reported that the Chinese Vice Premier is also scheduled to take part, in addition to several Ministers from Sri Lanka and China in today's event.
