Sri Lankan government has taken measures to reconstruct the religious places in the North and East damaged due to the terrorist activities during the three-decade long war.
A programme is being launched on a directive from the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to evaluate and repair the damages of the places of worship of all faiths.
The Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne is touring the North and East to observe the condition of these places of worship.
In addition to government allocations, foreign aid will be obtained for the project, the Premier has said.
The Tamil political party, Tamil National Alliance says more than 500 Hindu temples in the country had been damaged during the war with LTTE.
