Sri Lanka Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne has revealed in parliament today that some politicians were involved in the illegal drug business in the country.
He has said that there are one or two black sheep among the white and that all parties had such individuals.
Jayaratne has made the statement in the House in response to a special statement made by Chief Opposition Whip John Amaratunga on the rise in dangerous drugs in the country.
According to the Prime Minister, the support of all parties was needed to eradicate drug mafias from the country.
In his statement, Amaratunga has said that some politicians are involved in smuggling drugs into the country and has even put pressure on the police to release drug dealers connected to them. He said that nearly 29,000 persons have been convicted and had been sent to prison on drug related offences in 2010.
