Marxist party union of Sri Lanka asks for a kerosene subsidy for estate workers

The All Ceylon Estate Workers' Union affiliated to Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) says the government needs to make measures to grant a kerosene subsidy for the estate sector workers. Head of the Union, Ramalingam Chandrasekar told the media today that
the estate workers were the least privileged group in the country and the government needed to grant them a kerosene subsidy. He observed that the estate sector workers are the worst affected segment of people in the country by the increased fuel prices. According to Chandrasekar, the fuel price hike has come at a time when the plantation companies were engaged in curtailing the incentives provided to the estate workers. He noted that the government needed to address the issues faced by the estate workers. The government announced that it will offer a kerosene subsidy to households with no electricity.
