Sri Lanka President arrives in Singapore

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa accompanied by First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa arrived at the Changi International Airport in Singapore Tuesday for a two-day official visit at the invitation of President of Singapore Dr. Tony Tan Keng Yam. Senior Minister of Trade, Industries and Home Affairs of Singapore, S. Iswaran warmly welcomed the President and First Lady at the airport.

During his visit to Singapore, President Rajapaksa will hold talks with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. A memorandum of understanding on investment cooperation between the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka and the Singapore Business Federation will be signed during President's visit, according to Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. President Rajapaksa as the Defense Minister is expected to meet Singapore's Defense Minister Dr. Ng Eng Hen. The President is to visit the Singapore Botanic Gardens, where an orchid will be named in his honor. President and the First Lady will attend a state banquet hosted by President Tony Tan Keng Yam. He will also receive a briefing by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports on policies relating to community relations and social harmony. The President will also meet with Sri Lankan professionals in Singapore. Singapore High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, Chang Chai Chung, High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in Singapore, Mrs. Ferial Ashraff, Minister of External Affairs, Prof. G.L. Peiris, Parliamentarian Sajin Vass Gunawardena, Secretary to the President, Lalith Weeratunga and Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs, Karunathilaka Amunugama also accompanied the President.
