Sri Lanka's local media reported that a burning body of a person was found at Boteju Mawatha, a by-road in Thimbirigasyaya of Colombo city.
The burning body was suspected to be of Methias Chandrapala alias 'Kudu Mervyn' who was abducted from the custody of the prison officials by armed men in a white van.
Chandrapala was abducted by an armed gang of six that had come in a white van near the Hultsdorf Court Complex yesterday after the courts released him on bail from remand custody. The abducted man is believed to be a drug dealer and the abduction is believed to be gang-related. Police Special Task Force has been deployed in the area, while large crowds are gathering to see the burning body, reports said. Meanwhile a group of lawyers has staged a protest near the court complex today demanding firm action against such abductions. The family of the victim also held a separate protest outside the court complex.
