Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) today said that several governing party legislators are ready to join the UNP.
UNP Badulla District parliamentarian Harin Fernando told a press conference that nearly 20 disgruntled governing party legislators including senior ministers were in discussion with the UNP to join it.
Fernando said that these members were ready to join the party once the leadership is strengthened.
He also alleged that the Sri Lankan cricket team is being politicized by the inclusion of ruling alliance MP Sanath Jayasuriya in the squad.
Also addressing the press conference, UNP Gampaha District parliamentarian Ruwan Wijewardena said the UNP could move forward with Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe's experience and Sajith Premadasa's popularity at village level.
