Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the main constituent of Sri Lanka's ruling coalition United People's Freedom Alliance said it is displeased with the way the panel of experts had been appointed by the United Nations General-Secretary.
Addressing a media briefing at the SLFP headquarters in Colombo Friday evening, SLFP General Secretary Minister Maithripala Sirisena said despite the opposition to the panel, the government will follow a diligent foreign policy and would exercise a policy as expected towards the panel.
"The Sri Lanka government as a member state of the UN would work in the organization in trust, respect, and friendship, the General Secretary said.
The Minister acknowledged that the UN has always helped in areas such as health, Education etc and executed their plans and activities within Sri Lanka with state patronage then and now.
At the same time political parties within the ruling coalition, though agreed on a common agenda, have differing views and work according to their own policies and agendas freely without government interference if they are not in violation of UPFA principles, the Minister pointed out.
Ministers Dullas Alahapperuma, Susil Premajayantha, John Senevirathne, Prof. G L Peiris, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa were also present.
