The leader of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP), Ranil Wickremasinghe says people would take to the streets if the government fails to grant salary increments in the forthcoming budget.
Wickremasinghe told a news conference that
prices of commodities have increased although salaries have not been increased. He observed that people are finding it difficult to survive the price hikes and that most of them are in debt as a result. He added that all opposition parties agree that salaries have to be increased and that action should be taken to win relief for the people. According to Wickremasinghe, the opposition parties should protest and call on the government to increase salaries in the 2013 budget. -->
