Sri Lankan teachers also demand salary increments now

School teachers in Sri Lanka have also demanded an increase in their salaries following the government's announcement that salaries of university lecturers have deen raised effective October 1.
The Association of Education Professionals (AEP) says that the teachers also need to be granted a salary increase if the university lecturers are granted an increase. Head of the Association, Wasantha Dharmasiri has said that a government minister had made a comment that teachers would also ask for a salary hike if university lecturers were granted one. He has added that the government needs to pay attention to the needs of the school teachers as well since the government has ignored the school teachers who have been agitating for a salary increment. According to Dharmasiri, teachers get only around Rs 15,000-20,000 as a monthly salary while lecturers get over Rs 100,000. -->
