A Sri Lankan court has issued an enjoining order preventing the main Tamil party Tamil National Alliance (TNA) from expelling a legislator from the party.
The Colombo District Court Dhammika Ganepola issued an interim order today order preventing the TNA from expelling Ampara District Parliamentarian P.H. Piyasena. The Judge issued the order when a petition filed by the MP asking to withhold his expulsion by the party was heard in court. The Court ruled that the interim order will be valid until the hearing of the case ends. Piyasena contested under the TNA and was elected to the parliament from Digamadulla in Ampara District. In September 2010 MP Piyasena voted in favour of the government's Constitutional Amendment. Hence the TNA decided to take disciplinary action against him for breaching party rules. He later joined the government.
