Hansraj Saxena in police custody

Hansraj Saxena, Chief Operating Officer of Sun Pictures, was remanded to two days' police custody on Tuesday by a Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Saidapet in connection with a cheating case.

The K.K. Nagar police arrested Mr. Saxena on Sunday following a complaint lodged by T.S. Selvaraj, a film producer, that the former had cheated him of Rs. 82.53 lakh over distribution rights for screening of Tamil flick Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai in Salem. The complainant also alleged that Mr. Saxena had threatened him and acquired his signature on a blank paper. Mr. Saxena was produced at the 23rd Magistrate Court on Tuesday morning where his bail petition was heard. His counsel J. H. Basha argued for grant of bail, contending that the police had not produced any document concerning the money involved in the film rights deal. “It is only an oral allegation against my client,” he later told reporters on the court complex.

Additional Public Prosecutor D. Gopinath sought five days police custody for Mr. Saxena, saying that documents pertaining to the case have to be recovered by the investigating officer.

After arguments, the Magistrate granted two days' police custody to Mr. Saxena ending at 4.15 p.m. on July 7. Mr. Saxena was taken into police custody in the evening and will be produced in court on July 7.
