Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) has called on the government to hold elections to the remaining local government bodies on the same day.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a press conference today that there would be issues about the validity of the nomination papers handed to the respective local government bodies.
He said that although the court of law would issue its verdict on May 12, there would be other issues that would need to be addressed such as the validity of nomination papers and the electoral lists.
According to Attanayake, the government should not have an issue with holding elections to the remaining local government bodies on the same day if it commanded a majority as claimed.
