Main coalition partner of Sri Lanka's governing party rejects UN panel report

Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), the main coalition party of Sri Lanka's governing United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA), has rejected the report by the Panel of Experts appointed by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Sri Lanka.

Senior SLFP members addressing a press conference said the government would take every possible measure to safeguard the country from any repercussion following the UN's move to publish the panel report.

Senior SLFP member and Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said the UN's move to publish the report was unacceptable as the panel was not sanctioned by the UN or the Security Council.

De Silva said the government rejected the report and the Secretary General's decision to publish the panel report.
