Sri Lanka's Education Ministry to request funds for schools in landslide prone areas

Sri Lanka's Education Ministry is to present a Cabinet paper requesting for fund allocations to be distributed among schools that face the threat of landslides.

Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena has told the media that the relevant Cabinet paper would be submitted after the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) presents the report on landslide prone areas and the schools that would be affected.

The Education Ministry is to provide funds to the schools for either relocation or to take safety precautions.

The NBRO has so far identified 24 schools in the Kandy and Matale Districts that face the threat of landslides.
