JVP parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake told a press conference that some of the statistics released by the government regarding the extent of damages caused by the floods were incorrect.
Citing an example, he said the government figure of 400,000 acres of paddy land being destroyed by the floods was inaccurate.
He also said that a statement made by a government minister that 200 tanks were damaged by the floods was incorrect and that irrigation engineers have managed to save the large tanks in the provinces.
Referring to the paddy issue, Dissanayake said that the paddy plant could withstand a flood as the seeds are able to survive without being destroyed by the water.
According to Dissanayake, the exaggerated statistics are aimed at helping the government to find an excuse for price hikes of food commodities in future.

Now I really can't stand these politics thinking they can do whatever they want. Taking the taxpayers money saying it's for the flood damage and actually spending the money for their stupid things is brutal.
