President resumes work in the New Year with religious blessings

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa commenced work at the Presidential Secretariat for 2011 this morning amid religious ceremonies invoking blessings for the New Year.

Addressing the workers, President Rajapaksa requested the government servants to commit themselves for an efficient state service while engaging in public service with a compassionate mind.

The dedicated public servant is a tremendous boost for the future development in the country, the President pointed out.
The religious ceremonies were followed by traditional refreshments. The Secretary to the President Lalith Weerathunge is seen here presenting 'kiribath' (milk rice) to the President.
Lalith Weeratunga meanwhile led the staff in taking the pledge of the public service themed 'Commit towards Servicing the Public with Metta'.
