Over 200,000 people affected by floods in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Center (DMC) says that 214,817 persons have been affected in several districts by floods due to the heavy rains experienced in the country.

The DMC states that 56,803 families have been affected by floods while 3,134 of them have been displaced.

There are currently 10 camps in the Batticaloa District providing shelter to 744 families and six camps in the Trincomalee District.

Hundreds of houses have been either fully or partially damaged due to floods in the Batticaloa and Kandy Districts.

Meanwhile, due to heavy rainfall, sluice gates of several reservoirs in the Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura have been opened causing floods in low lying areas.
