Officially inaugurating the Deyata Sevana program to plant 1.1million trees island wide the President and First Lady planted saplings of Kiri Palu (Bachuanania Axillaris) and Sudu Handun (sandalwood) trees at the premises of the President's House today at an auspices time.

President Rajapaksa called the island wide tree planting programme is an investment for the future generation. The programme will pave the way for the creation of a future generation which loves the environment, he said.
Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa participating in the program said although 1.1 million plants were planned to be planted during the 11 minutes from 10:07 to 10:18 this morning, according to the information received, the number of trees planted exceeds 3.5 million. Both the government and the private sector has provided assistance for the programme, he said.
The government has declared the week from 15th to 22nd November as the inaugural celebration week to mark the swearing-in ceremony of President Rajapaksa for his second term that begins on Friday 19th.

Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayaka, President's Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, President's Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath also planted trees at the President's House.
