Sri Lanka Tamil party says attack on JVP indicates deterioration of law and order in the country

Sri Lanka's Tamil National Alliance (TNA) today condemned the attack on Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti and three other JVP activists in Jaffna yesterday.

The TNA has said that the attack was a clear indication of the deterioration of the law and order in the country.

TNA parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran has told the media that the military and police have to be held responsible for the attack as the entire North is under their control.

Handunnetti and three other JVP members were assaulted yesterday (14) when they were attending a meeting at former TNA MP Padmini Sithambaranadan's residence.

According to the JVP, a group of unidentified persons had tried to abduct one of their activists and Handunnetti and a few others were injured in the attack.

Handunnetti had arrived in Jaffna yesterday to participate in a protest campaign organized for today in the city calling on the government to reveal the names and details of persons who are being detained by the security forces.
