The success of Rahul Gandhi in regaining some Parliamentary seats in the State of Utter Pradesh in the last elections was attributed to his efforts to strengthen the Congress party at grass root level. It seems he is trying to replicate the success in Bihar too. The results will be out in a few days. And Rahul is giving more attention to Tamil nadu than Gujarat since he may think that DMK or AIADMK are weakened in Tamil nadu when compared to strongman Modi of Gujarat.
But the method Rahul is employing in Tamil nadu is outdated. He is still under the impression that Tamil people may be taken for granted if some actors come for election campaign without any background in social activities.
After losing power to DMK in 1967, the Congress party has always played a second fiddle to DMK or AIADMK. By this strategy the Congress party in Tamil nadu could not develop into a single major party and the party is now made up of innumerable number of factions.
A decade before it was said Actor Rajinikant would be roped in to TN Congress party to gather popular support. Rajini was always a business man having a vision to use the political parties and refusing to let political parties to dictate to him.
Actor Vijayakant had an opportunity to join Congress party since he had close contacts with them. But due to the greedy ambition of Vijayakant to become a Chief Minister immediately after launching his own party prevented him to join in Congress party.
Then Rahul Gandhi tried Vijay and Ajith the young popular actors to become members of the Congress party. But those heroes are said to have turned town the offer. Now as the elections for the assembly are around the corner Rahul has turned towards second level supporting role actors who are readily available.
After meeting Rahul Gandhi, actor Radha Ravi the Ex DMK and AIADMK supporter is moving towards joining the Congress party. Earlier S. Ve Shekar the Ex AIADMK MLA and popular stage actor too has expressed his intention to join Congress party.
Whether the big sharks of Congress party in Tamil nadu agree for inclusion of more actors is a question. Rahul may end up with adding some more factions and few more votes not enough to capture the imagination of the people. Instead of developing grass root level, Rahul looks above tree top level. The prince should come out of fairy tales.
