A pictorial of Sri Lanka President's visit to Kilinochchi



Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa today visited the former rebel stronghold of Kilinochchi to lead the first ever Cabinet meeting held outside the capital Colombo. Following the meeting he toured the city devastated by the war and met public officials and people participating in several activities.

President Rajapaksa visited the new Ranaviru Monument erected in the Kilinochchi city for the memory of fallen soldiers with the Army Commander Major General Jagath Jayasuriya and senior military officers in charge of Wanni.
Livestock and Rural Development Ministry has taken measures to introduce a new milk packet "Delite" for Rs. 99 under the Promotion of Milk production Industry in the Northern Province. The Livestock Minister Arumugam Thondaman presented the first milk packet to the President during the tour. Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratna, Ministers Douglas Devananda and Rishad Bathiudeen were also present.
President Rajapaksa opened a new vocational training center in Kilinochchi and met the youth receiving training. The people welcomed the President with traditional Hindu customs. Ministers Douglas Devananda, Mahindananda Aluthgamage, and Dullas Alahapperuma and IGP Mahinda Balasuriya accompanied the President.
The youth from the Kilinochchi Youth Services presented a cultural show for the President.
Under the Northern development program the government has taken measures to provide livelihoods to the people and uplift the economy in the region. President rajapaks and Ministers Devananda, Aluthgamage and Alahapperuma and IGP Balasuriya participated in distributing hundreds of water pumps, bicycles, and sewing machines to the residents.
President Rajapaksa spent some time with the people receiving their warm welcome.
