'Shed political differences and serve the people' Sri Lanka President says

The time has come for everyone to shed political differences and join together to rebuild the lives of the people devastated by the three-decade long terrorism, Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa told public officials in Kilinochchi Wednesday.

Addressing the public officials in the Northern region following the historic Cabinet meeting in Kilinochchi Wednesday, the President said there is a massive development in the North today and urged the officials to commit themselves to serve the people.

The President highlighted that the government has resettled the internally displaced with necessary security in a speedy manner unparallel to anywhere else in the world.

"I just want to remind you that today we are creating history. This is the first time that a Head of State is addressing public officials at a location at Kilinochchi," the President noted.
President Rajapaksa instructed the public officials to go to the people and identify their problems and work towards addressing those problems.

"Working for the people is similar to working for God. Never forget this. We must ensure that the people of the North are provided with facilities," he stressed.
The President reminded the officials that they had good fortune to receive free education and to be at places of significance and now it is their turn to return some of their fortune to address the problems of the battered people in the region to uplift their lives.

"We are spending a large capital for development. The people must receive its maximum benefit," the President emphasized.
During the tour in Kilinochchi President Rajapaksa addressed a public rally and distributed hundreds of sewing machines, water pumps and bicycles to the recently resettled people to help their livelihoods.
