Nurses make a picket line in front of Sri Lanka's National Hospital

Government Nursing Officers Association of Sri Lanka launched a protest campaign in front of the Colombo National Hospital today seeking solutions for a number of issues related to the nursing profession.

The General Secretary of the Government Nursing Officers Association Saman Rathnapriya said that they were seeking immediate response from the Ministry of Health to get these issues resolved.

The nurses demand promotions to grade one of the Sri Lanka nursing service for those qualified with 12 years of service instead of the present condition of 23 years service for the promotion.

Nurses also demand a five-day working week. Currently nurses have to work six working days for a week.
