Ban Ki-Moon had to limit the scope of the committee due to our fast, says Sri Lankan Minister's party

Former parliamentarian and the national organizer of the National Freedom Front (NFF) of Sri Lanka Jayantha Samaraweera told media today that the fast unto death of NFF leader Wimal Weerawansa was a success.

He pointed out that the fast was launched against the committee appointed by the UN Secretary-General on Sri Lanka to advise him on accountability issues during the last part of the war.
The JNP said that the UN secretary Ban Ki-Moon had to restrict the committee in the limit of an advisory committee due to the protest of the NFF.
Samaraweera pointed out that nothing about a panel of experts was mentioned in the joint statement signed in 2009 by the UN Secretary-General and the Sri Lanka President during his visit to Sri Lanka just after the war ended.
The UN chief has repeatedly insisted that the panel of experts is an advisory body and not an investigation into Sri Lanka's alleged war crimes.
The NFF spokesmen slammed the opposition United National Party and the People's Liberation Front for criticizing Weerawansa's two-and-half-day fast unto death. They accused the opposition for being the voice of the UN Secretary-General instead of opposing the committee against the motherland.
