Sri Lankan court takes up conspiracy charges against General Fonseka

Sri Lankan authorities today (12) filed a third case before a civil court against former Army Commander and Democratic National Alliance (DNA) parliamentarian retired General Sarath Fonseka.

The latest case to be filed against General Fonseka is on the allegation of conspiracy against the government with 10 other military personnel.
When the case was heard today Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli had directed the CID to inform the courts on July 26 the progress of the probe.
The other cases against General Fonseka before civil courts are the alleged controversial "white flag" story against the Defence Secretary and the HiCorp arms deals.
During the campaign for presidential election in January, General Fonseka has reportedly told a local English weekly that the Defense Secretary had given the order to shoot the senior LTTE leaders surrendering with white flags.

The Hicorp case involves an alleged arms deal that had taken place during General Fonseka's tenure as Army Chief.
