when thirty-two year old Delta Airlines pilot Matthew Lamar McDaniel from Atlanta attempted to go thought airport security, he apparently forgot to remove his gun from his bag…and ended up in jail.
The pilot was arrested after the screeners at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport allegedly found a loaded handgun in his carry on luggage, which he was trying to get through security with, according to the Atlanta, Ga police. McDaniel was said to be off duty at the time, by a Delta spokeswoman by the name of Susan Elliot, and she did not know why he was at the airport, much less carrying a gun. He has not been relived of duty until the airline conducts it’s own investigation. He has been a pilot for Delta Airlines for three years.
According to the police report, McDaniel was carrying a Taurus .38 special which was loaded with five bullets. He was trying to get through the T north security checkpoint. It went on to state that the weapon was “not artfully concealed.” McDaniel does have a permit to carry a gun, and claimed that he has cleaned out his girlfriend’s car, and simply forgot to remove the gun from his luggage. He was released on a 5,700 dollar bond from the Clayton County Jail not long after his booking, which occurred on Saturday.
