Sri Lanka's major Tamil constituent Tamil National Alliance (TNA) held a commemoration of war victims in Vavuniya of the Northern Province today.
A number of TNA MPs and other politicians together with Tamil activists lit oil lamps and candles before an image of an eye overflowing tear. Two minutes silence was observed. Vanni district MPs Sivashakthi Anandan and Noha Radhalingam, Chavakachcheri Deputy Mayor M.K. Sivajilingam and V. AnandaSangaree were present at the commemoration. The MPs whot spoke after the ritual said that the government had not still declared the exact number of persons killed in the war and the names of the dead had not been made public even three years after the end of war. They further pointed out that the government had not completed resettlement of the IDPs and compensating the property that was damaged. They urged the government to solve those problems.
