Sri Lanka is gradually moving its government administrative offices from the country's commercial capital of Colombo to the administrative capital of Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte Kotte.
Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa Friday ceremoniously declared open the newly constructed administrative office complex of Sethsiripaya in Battaramulla.

The 14-storied building constructed at a cost of 3.5 billion rupees is the second phase of the enhancement to the Sethsiripaya administrative building complex.
The new building, fully furnished and equipped with modern technical facilities will occupy administrative offices of the government currently located in Colombo freeing prime office space for businesses.
The government aims to accommodate all administrative offices into a centralized location in the administrative capital Kotte.
Participating at the event Minister Dinesh Gunawardena has said that shifting many government offices currently located in Colombo city to the new building is one step in turning the city of Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte into the administrative hub and releasing Colombo city mainly for business affairs.
Shifting Colombo offices to Battaramulla will ease the traffic congestion in the capital as well, he has noted.
The new building complex comprises many facilities including a state-of-the-art auditorium, internal and external security camera system, solar power plants, and facilities for the disabled among others.
The facility, with an area over 368,000 square feet was constructed in accordance with ISO 9000 standards by Urban Investment and Development Ltd, which operates under Urban Development Authority.
Governor Western Province Alavi Maulana, Senior Ministers Athawuda Seneviratne, A.H.M> Fowzie, Ministers Felix Perera, Wimal Weerawansa, Bandula Gunawardena, C. B> Ratnayake, Priyankara Jayaratne and Chandrasiri Gajadeera, Acting Secretary to the President Gamini Senarath and Secretary of defence Gotabhaya Rajapaksa also participated in the occasion.
