Sri Lanka's High Court orders for file on the murder of Presidential advisor

The High Court of Sri Lanka has ordered that the file on the murder of presidential advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra be handed over to the court from the Colombo Magistrate's Court in connection with a motion filed by a lawyer seeking permission to appear for the accused, governing party MP Duminda Silva. High Court Judge Sunil Rajapaksa has also directed officers of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to be present at the next hearing date for clarifications.
The judge made these directives when the case filed by President's Counsel Hemantha Warnakulasuriya on behalf of Silva's parents seeking an order to appear for Silva was heard. MP Silva is the aggrieved party in Premachandra's murder investigation which is being heard in the Colombo Magistrate's Court. Warnakulasuriya has asked the High Court to remove the order issued by Additional Colombo Magistrate Prasanna Alwis preventing him from appearing on behalf of Silva. Judge Rajapaksa has asked the case to be withdrawn since Warnakulasruiya was appearing on behalf of Silva in case before the Magistrate's Court. Warnakulasuriya however has told court that he did not appear on behalf of Silva, but for his parents. According to Warnakulasuriya, Silva had the right to an attorney. The High Court Judge ordered the court registrar to make available the file on the murder that is before the Magistrate's Court on April 26th when the case would be taken up next and ordered the CID also to be present in court that day. The MP, who was injured in the shootout that killed the presidential adviser Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra last October, is to undergo another surgery at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.
