Sri Lanka security forces and rehabilitated ex-combatants celebrate New Year together

The Sri Lankan government has organized festivities to celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year for members of the security forces and rehabilitated former members of the Tamil Tiger terrorist group LTTE.
The New Year celebrations were held Thursday at the Municipal Council grounds in Vavuniya.
Members of rehabilitated former LTTE cadres and their family members were engaged in New Year celebrations with members of the armed forces.
About 700 rehabilitated ex-combatants from the Polonnaruwa and Vavuniya camps had participated in the event.

The security forces personnel and the rehabilitated members were engaged in traditional New Year games.
The government initiated the move as part of the post war reconciliation process and to bridge the gap between communities.
