Sri Lanka's former rebel leader urges Tamil politicians to avoid confrontational politics

Former international wing leader and chief arms procurer of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP has urged the Tamil political parties in the country to avoid 'confrontational politics' and 'embrace realistic thinking' in order to solve the problems faced by the minority Tamils.
He has expressed these views during an opening ceremony of a home for the orphaned girls on Friday in a 25-acre state land in former LTTE stronghold Mulliyawalai in the Mullaitivu district. The orphanage, named Bharathy Home, has been started by the North East Rehabilitation Development Organization (NERDO), a charity run by the former rebel leader with the support of a section of the Tamil Diaspora, according to a local media site Ceylon Today. The former rebel leader has charged that certain Tamil politicians in the country and certain factions of the Tamil Diaspora exploit the Tamil civilians in the North and the East for their political gains. He has urged the Tamil politicians to take a common stance in solving the issues instead of having fragmented opinions. "Confrontational attitudes in politics are not going to take us anywhere. We must have a realistic approach in dealing with our issues. As far as the Tamil politicians are concerned they must take a common stance in solving the issues instead of having fragmented opinions," Pathmanathan has said. NERDO has planned to open another home called 'Sencholai' in the Mullaitivu district shortly, Pathmanathan has said. The former rebel leader, who remains on Interpol's 'Wanted' list, opened NERDO's 'Abode of Love', a children's home in Muthaiyankattu village of Mullaitivu district last year for the children orphaned by the war. He has also stated that one of the main objectives of NERDO was to upgrade education facilities for children in the war-battered region.
