Sri Lanka Prisons Department has evacuated inmates at the Anuradhapura prison in the North Central Province due to floods.
Prisons Commissioner General Major General V.R. de Silva has told the media that floods have affected the Anuradhapura Prison and that about 1,200 inmates have been transferred to other prisons in the country.
Last month inmates at the Anuradhapura prison staged protests against inadequate facilities in the prison. The protests led to the death of two prisoners and injued over 20 people including some prison officials.
