Sri Lankan Tamils protest pro-LTTE demos in London

Sri Lankan Tamils recently resettled in Mullaitivu district held a massive demonstration against the pro-LTTE Tamil groups who launched protests last week in London against the visiting Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Thousands of Tamils including women and children carrying black flags and holding banners and placards marched through the town of Mullaitivu Saturday afternoon.

The placards displayed in Tamil and English read "When we suffered you enjoy the luxury, come back see the development help us,", "Together we protest our President who rescued Tamils."

"Thanks to President my children are in school now," another placard said. "We hate the War again," another said.

The demonstrators burned the effigies of dead LTTE leaders Prabhakaran and Pottu Amman. Traders also joined in the protest, closing their shops and hoisting black flags.
President Rajapaksa visited the UK to address the Oxford Union on an invitation from the prestigious organization but the Union succumbed to the pressure from the pro-LTTE diaspora and cancelled the event.
