Sri Lankan Premier calls on democratic nations to expose the double standards of some Western nations

Sri Lankan Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne has said today (5) that the double standards of some European and Western nations in relation to terrorism should be revealed to the world.

Issuing a statement, Jayaratne said that democratic nations should not keep silent with regard to the incident in London, where some LTTE sympathizers held demonstrations against the visiting President Mahinda Rajapaksa last week.

The Prime Minister said that Sri Lanka has faced several such situations in the past as well and this incident has clearly shown that LTTE remnants are still alive at the international level.

The PM said President Mahinda Rajapaksa has rewritten history by uprooting terrorism in the Sri Lankan soil and it is mandatory to protect the President from onslaughts of external factors.

Jayaratne emphasized that however, no subversive element will be able to hinder the onward march of the nation.

Commenting on the accusations leveled against the opposition United National Party parliamentarian Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena who allegedly supported the pro-LTTE protests held in London, the Premier said if the allegations are true he should be considered as a traitor and not a public representative.

The Prime Minister called on all Sri Lankans to unite to face this strongly and stand to defeat such forces.
