The Sri Lankan government says it has declared the week from November 15 to 22 to celebrate the inauguration of the second term of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The government said island wide festivities and events have been organized to celebrate the national event.
The Cabinet Sub Committee organizing the festivities has decided that colours of other political parties or photographs of any person other than the President should not be used for publicity purposes.
The committee has stated that the inauguration ceremony is intended to be celebrated as a national event.
Several events have been planned to celebrate the event including a campaign to plant 1.1 million trees island wide. The island wide tree planting is scheduled at the auspicious time of 11 a.m. on November 15th
President Rajapaksa was elected for a second term at the presidential elections held in January 2010 with an 18 percent majority over his opponent former army commander and common opposition candidate Sarath Fonseka.
