Sri Lanka Telecom boasts of 70% of the local broadband market

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) announced today that as of now 200,000 broadband customers in the country possess ADSL connections provided by SLT.

SLT says this achievement represents more than 70% of Sri Lanka's total broadband consumer base and over 20% of SLT Megaline (PSTN/wireline) telephone customer base.

SLT has sold 80,000 ADSL connections during this year mainly for customers who want to access high-speed internet and Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and PEO-TV services.

The premier telecommunication service provider with SLT VisionCom Private Limited launched its IPTV service in September of 2008.

SLT has laid out a fiber optic information superhighway to the Jaffna Peninsula in Northern Province to connect the region to the rest of the world.
