Four members of Sri Lanka's Marxist party affiliated medical union arrested

Sri Lanka's Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) affiliated All Ceylon Government Medical Officers' Association (ACGMOA) has said that four of its activists have been arrested while distributing leaflets in Matara.

The ACGMOA has condemned the arrest of its activists who were arrested while distributing leaflets against the introduction of private medical universities in the country.

The ACGMOA has charged that while the phones of the medical students who were taken into custody were deactivated, they were questioned by the police for several hours.

According to the Association, a large number of leaflets that were meant to be distributed have also been taken to police custody while the students were threatened not to distribute the leaflets in the future.

Sri Lanka police yesterday arrested four undergraduates of Ruhunu University Medical Faculty at Karapitiya in Matara for distributing leaflets.
