Sri Lanka main opposition's Grama Charika campaign moves to Matara

Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) will hold the second phase of the Grama Charika programme in Matara this weekend.

The Grama Charika programme is aimed at reaching out to the grassroots level membership of the party. This weekend's programme is headed by the Opposition Leader, Ranil Wickremasinghe.

All faiths religious ceremonies are to be held as a part of the campaign. Buddhist ceremonies at Sudharmarama Temple in Thudawe, Catholic service at Our Lady's Church, Islamic observances at the Jumma Mosque at Kadaweediya and Hindu religious offerings at Kataragama Dewalaya at Station Road will take place.

The programme in Matara includes a Shramadhana campaign to clean up the Matara Beach Park. The campaign would move to other areas where meetings would be held

A seminar has been organized for tomorrow (07) evening at the Uyanwatte Stadium by the People's Movement Against Dictatorial Insanity.

The two-day programme is organized by UNP Matara District parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera and all party seniors are expected to participate.
