Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) today said the party would take the initiative with other opposition parties in parliament to take the government injustices against former Army Commander and DNA Leader retired General Sarath Fonseka before the International Courts.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a meeting in Seeduwa that Gampaha District UNP MP Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena would be assigned with the task of taking the necessary documents to be submitted to the International Courts.
Dr. Jayawardena is expected to make representations before the Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians of the Inter Parliamentary Union on October 2 in Geneva on behalf of Fonseka.
Dr. Jayawardene has reportedly been invited to the hearing by Anders B. Johnson, the Union's Secretary General.
