DNA calls on Sri Lanka religious leaders and public to come forward to protect ex-military chief's rights

Sri Lanka's Democratic National Alliance (DNA) Sunday called on religious leaders and the public to come forward to protect the rights of former Army Commander and DNA Leader retired General Sarath Fonseka.

Fonseka's wife, Anoma Fonseka told a press conference today that she did not expect justice for her husband from the President.
She said that military officers have betrayed their uniforms to follow the orders of the country's highest authority.
She claimed that officers sitting at the Courts Martial against Fonseka have betrayed their uniforms to safeguard their future as they would be harassed if they did not do so.
Anoma said that Fonseka's detention after the Presidential Election and Courts Martial against him were in contravention to international norms.

The first court martial against Fonseka stripped him of all medals, decorations and ranks while the second found him guilty of irregularities in army procurements and sentenced him to three years imprisonment pending approval by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
