Sri Lankan court releases former journalist and UNP candidate

A Sri Lankan court today (11) released former News Director of MTV/MBC Media Network and UNP Colombo District candidate at the last general election, Susil Kindelpitiya on bail.

The Colombo High Court granted bail to Kindelpitiya after the woman who initially lodged a complainant against him at the Mirihana Police had said her statement given to the Court by the police was incorrect.
He was arrested a few days prior to the April general election on a complaint lodged by a woman claiming to have been threatened by him.
The police complaint had stated that the woman had complained of being threatened with a fire arm, which had been in his vehicle.
However, the victim had said in an affidavit to the Court that she never saw a weapon in Kindelpitiya's vehicle at the time of his arrest.
Kindelpitiya and his supporters were arrested by Special Investigation Unit of the Mirihana Police on April 2 while traveling in Kindelpitiya's vehicle with the fire arm after abducting the woman.
