Sri Lanka Minister of Petroleum Susil Premajayantha said today that the government had taken no decision to increase the fuel prices.
He emphasized that even a discussion was not held in the government regarding this matter. He said that no significant escalation or de-escalation of fuel prices was observed in the world markets and necessity of increasing fuel prices had not arisen.
However, rumors had spread in Sri Lanka that the government is planning to increase fuel prices.
While responding to a query from a journalist during a visit to the Muthuraja Wela oil storage, the Minister said that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation would be capable to supply the demand of the fuel market boosted by the slash of import taxes for motor vehicles.
