Sri Lanka's Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa today met rehabilitated former LTTE soldiers who have undergone vocational training and handed out proficiency certificates.
Secretary Rajapaksa accompanied by the commanders of the three armed forces and the acting Inspector General of Police visited the Welikanda camp in the Eastern Province and addressed a gathering of about 4,000 tri-service personnel and police.
He later on visited the Senapura Rehabilitation Centre in Welikanda and awarded Proficiency Certificates for Vocational Training and Certificates of Participation along with a gift package to 30 rehabilitated LTTE cadres who had completed the training.
The highpoint of the occasion came when a rehabilitated ex-LTTE combatant welcomed the Defense Secretary offering a traditional stack of betel leaves.
Those certificates formally confirm the completion of their vocational training in carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and drainage, house-wiring and bulldozer driving and enable the trainees to find employment and join the mainstream of society, once they are released on a staggered basis upon rehabilitation.
