Court orders Private TV station in Sri Lanka to submit tapes on General Fonseka's "white flag" story

A Sri Lankan court today (22) ordered a private TV station to hand over the tapes of speeches made by former Army Commander and Democratic National Alliance (DNA) parliamentarian retried General Sarath Fonseka to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The retired military chief had delivered the speeches at meetings in Ratnapura and Ampara during the last presidential election.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Sujeewa Nissanka had made the order following a request made by the CID for the tapes saying the speeches carried references to the controversial "white flag" story.

General Fonseka had reportedly made references to the "white flag" story in which he had made the allegation that the Defence Secretary had ordered to shoot the white flags carrying LTTE cadres who wanted to surrender to the security forces.

Private TV station Sirasa, a channel affiliated to the MTV/MBC Network has also been ordered to release tapes of news items related to the issue as well as the interview given by General Fonseka.
