AIADMK general secretary has termed Alagiri's promise to lawyers, who are on a fast demanding Tamil to be made court language in Madurai, that he had discussed the issue with Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily and a decision would be taken within 15 days as 'nothing but a joke', as the Union Minister's request to speak in Tamil in Parliament itself was yet to be fulfilled.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, she further pointed out that when the agitating lawyers demanded a written assurance from Moily as well as from Alagiri that a decision would be taken in 15 days, the latter did not visit them again.
The former chief minister also took a dig at DMK leader Karunanidhi, who released a statement in support of the lawyer's demand, and his son and Union Fertilizer Minister Alagiri, saying that both were enacting a drama.
The AIADMK leader, while expressing her party's support to the fasting advocates of Madurai Bench of Madras High Court, appealed to the lawyers not to sacrifice their precious lives and withdraw their agitation as the ruling DMK was not going to solve the issue.
Jayalalithaa said the lawyers' demand would be fulfilled after the AIADMK returns to power after the Assembly Elections in 2011. The former chief minister said the advocates should be present when it happens.
It may be recalled that six advocates were on a fastuntodeath for the last eight days in Madurai.
