Price reductions delayed

The Association of Essential Commodities Importers has informed Consumer Affairs Minister Bandula Gunawardena that although he has said prices of eight essential items would be reduced from Monday (9) midnight, the prices could not be reduced until the new shipment of the respective items are imported to the country.

President of the Association, S.P. Sami said it would take at least another month for the price reduction to come into effect given the stocks that are already in stores.
Consumer Affairs Authority Director General,
P. Jayasuriya says a decision has been arrived at to provide a three weeks grace period for the traders for them to finish their existing stocks.
